VISHWA NATURAL FAB PRINTS
Hyderabad, Telangana
In their own words
Nautral dyes are in forefront today due to increasing environmental concern across the nations. Dyeing and printing of textiles is much advanced today due to the invention of digital printing technology but due to pollution problems associated with the synthetic dye usage restrict them from exports. The traditional techniques of printing with natural dyes are in vogue still today such as Kalamkari, Azrak, bagru, Sanganer etc. These prints are produced following long, time taking, laborious techniques that restrict the production rate to few metres. Moreover, the background colour is also changed and never be white or required colour due to boiling of the fabric in some natural dye source. Majority of the printed textiles are only block printed which is a slow process of production. Therefore, production of printed fabrics in large quantities is not possible in the present scenario. The concept of the business is to produce fast green prints on fabrics using natural dyes. As natural dyes exhibit poor substantivity to textile fibres, specially to cellulosic fabrics, technology was developed in collaboration with PJTSAU, Hyderabad for production of direct print on textile fabrics similar to synthetic dye printing. The technology is applicable to all types of fabrics including synthetic fabrics. To facilitate production of green textiles, the fabrics are first dyed in pastel colors using natural dyes. The printing paste consists of two parts: 1. Nano Base- made using ball milling 2. Natural Pigment paste The base can be stored upto 3 months without much problem. The printing paste is prepared by different combinations of natural pigments based on the colour shade required. Later fabrics are printed using screen printing without altering the background unlike the traditional printing with natural dyes. The final printed goods after drying are subjected to steaming to fix the dye. The above method is novel, first of its kind to produce fast prints on fabric. As it is a direct printing method, it promotes fast production. The colour palette is also enhanced as compared to traditional natural dye printed textiles with good fastness properties on various textiles. The merits of the products are as follows: 1. Totally natural, eco-friendly, bio-degradable 2. Direct printing technique- Less labour, shortened processing time 3. Retains background colour of consumer’s choice 4. Fast production. Possible to produce in large numbers unlike traditional prints 5. More economical 6. Printable using screens 7. Good colourfastness of printed textiles 8. Extended colour palette- possible to produce more shades than the existing traditional prints 9. Synthetics can also be printed 10. Retains background colour of the fabric With the above features, the printed products are unique in nature and may be a breakthrough in printing textiles safeguarding the environment. The printed fabrics either sarees or dress material or home textiles are themselves unique products. The natural dyed and printed textiles differ from other counterparts in the market in the following areas: 1. These prints are direct prints without further processing except steaming. The traditional natural dye printing is a lengthy process that involves boiling the fabric in one or two colour sources. 2. These prints are first of its kind not found in the market. 3. More number of colours are possible with adequate fastness unlike the traditional prints. 4. While these prints are screen printed, traditional prints use block prints which is a slow process. 5. This novel printing facilitates fast production. 6. The printing can be done on synthetic fabrics also especially polyester fabrics. Therefore, there are no competitors in the market for these products. The following strategies will be followed to improve the business: 1. Linkages with boutiques- Orders for dyeing and printing will be booked from noted boutiques, which in turn gives feed back about the designs, colors and color fastness of the printed fabrics 2. Fashion Platform- The printed fabric merchandise will be show cased to Fashion Designers at appropriate fashion events 3. Linkage with Dept of Handlooms and Textiles, Govt of Telangana for continuous supply of printed sarees/dress material/ home textiles to TESCO show rooms and sale points (Formerly APCO) 4. Linkages with Dept of Tourism 5. Conducting exporters meeting 6. Linkages with International Natural dye Platforms such as MAIWA 7. Online fashion sales 8. Supply to exclusive natural dye textile shops 9. Participating in exhibitions
