The startups in West Bengal we can both place and evidence, about 1,405 of them. Bubbles are groups; zoom in and they separate into companies, coloured by who is behind each one. A number always zooms in, a single dot opens the company.

"About", because the map counts by coordinate and that figure counts by company. A coordinate belongs to whichever district contributes most of the companies sitting on it, so a handful registered just over a state line are drawn on the neighbour's side of it. The map's own counter, under the filter button, always says exactly what is on screen.

What this state's numbers show

West Bengal holds 3.8% of the national register and 0.9% of the Seed Fund pot, Rs 7.0 crore across just 2 incubators, one of the two thinnest allocations relative to size anywhere in the scheme. Kolkata accounts for 65.8% of the state, and 32 of its 56 district labels carry enough records for a page. Recognition runs below the national rate at 43.5% against 51.2%, while the funding-signal rate runs above it at 11.5% against 10.5%. The two are independent: recognition is applied for, a funding signal is reported.

What West Bengal builds

The category each company chose for itself from the government's list when it registered. Self-selected, never audited.

We checked our count against the government's

The Startup India API returns facet counts computed over the entire register on every search response. That is an independent number we did not produce, so it is a real check on our own sweep rather than a restatement of it.

Our count for West Bengal against the Startup India census facet, with the difference
Our count 17,397
Government census 17,991
Difference -594 (-3.3%)

A difference is expected and is not an error in either number. Ours counts resolved companies after merging duplicate profiles; the government's counts profiles. We also exclude startups we may not republish.

Companies in West Bengal

We do not list every company. One appears here only where the register holds more than a name for it: a description the company wrote about itself, and either a CIN or a website. 8,093 of the 17,397 West Bengal registrations clear that bar. These are the 60 we hold the most for, best-evidenced first. Search reaches the rest.

It is a test of whether there is anything to read, not of whether the company is trading. Registration is not an operating signal. A large share of registered startups are dormant, and we have no way to tell you which. How we counted.

What the six marks mean

  • DPIIT recognised
  • CIN on file
  • Website
  • Description
  • Logo
  • Funding signal

A filled mark is a field we hold for that company. A hollow one is a field we do not. It is a summary of what the register gave us, not a rating: none of it says whether the company is trading.

About this data

Indian Startup Map is an independent directory built from the Government of India's Startup India register and other public sources, snapshot 2026-08. We do not run the register, we do not own or represent any company on it, and nothing here is an endorsement of one. Company names and logos belong to their owners. Every source is listed.

A dot on the map may be wrong, and most of them are not an address. Most startups sit at the centre of their district, which is a label position and not a place. Where we do hold something finer it is a geocode of a registered office, which is frequently a founder's home rather than a place of business, so we round it and never publish the address line.

Registration is not an operating signal. A large share of registered startups are dormant, and we have no way to tell you which. Figures come from our own count of that snapshot and will differ from the government's own census, which counts differently.
