IntroductionAt Cuppa Trade we are building the world’s first B2B international emarketplace for Tea. Despite being one of the most consumed commodity in the world, the current method of tea trading has been continuing since close to two centuries and we feel it’s ripe for disruption. With issues like high procurement cost, unchecked pesticides level, lack of traceability, low representation of small tea growers (STG), poor price realization, sustainability and so on, there is no single entity addressing these in a holistic manner. In this interconnected world with advancement in ecommerce, we feel B2B tea trading has been left behind. We intend to change this with the help of new-age tech and an all-encompassing single platform. Our purpose is to add value to the Tea Trade; expose buyers & sellers to worldwide markets; ensure better in-hand remuneration for producers; provide quality tea to buyers with complete traceability in the shortest and most cost-effective manner. And weaving all these objectives would be the thread of technology making trading easy, convenient and secure. We also believe, ‘sustainability’ is no longer a buzz-word. It is the need of the hour. While many companies partake in sustainability initiatives for branding and shareholder appeasement, we feel differently about it. We are in the process of partnering with Rainforest Alliance and Fair Trade towards this end. There is no other tech platform enabling traceability, facilitating smart contracts for this commodity, so having a first mover advantage in addition to our plans for achieving breakeven within 18 months of our operations. The co-founders come with a rich background in tea & tea exports, agri and ecommerce. One of our co-founders has 35 years of experience in the international tea industry and had successfully launched the Dubai Tea Centre at DMCC (UAE). Also, one of the other cofounder had spearheaded India’s first tea emarketplace, the Jorhat Tea Centre in association with Tea Board of India.
