What stands out
Kolkata holds 11,455 of West Bengal's 17,397 registered startups, 65.8% of the state. IT Services is its largest category with 1,217 companies (10.6%) out of 56 categories in use. 7,395 of the 11,455 carry a CIN and 5,434 a website, which is what the best-evidenced table in chapter 8 is built from.
1,330 carry a funding signal of some class. 1,314 of those are the self-declared checkbox on the government form and 19 are attested by a named backer, fund or state programme; the report prints the classes apart and never adds them into one "funded" number. 3,804 of Kolkata's startups can be placed to a street, which is the population the pincode chapter ranks.
Registration is not an operating signal. A large share of registered startups are dormant, and we have no way to tell you which. How we counted.
