The map
Every bubble is a group of companies, sized by how many and split by the stage they declared, so a pale ring is an early ecosystem and a dark one a maturing one. It opens on the 47,744 companies carrying a funding signal; turn that filter off to load the whole register. Only the 4,345 records with a street-level coordinate are ever treated as a real address. The same counts are browsable without the map, one page per district and per state.

The map loads with JavaScript. If it does not appear, every district and state page carries the same counts, the same precision breakdown and the companies themselves.
Location precision
Bar widths are the real proportions. Only the 4,345 records with a street-level coordinate are ever drawn as a pin. Everything else is drawn as an area, because that is what we actually know.
- street
- 4,345
- 1.0%
- We know a street-level coordinate.
- locality
- 50,073
- 11%
- We know the area, not the address.
- district
- 3,96,176
- 87%
- We know the district only.
- unplaced
- 2,598
- 0.6%
- We could not place these at all.
A district circle is a count placed at a centroid, not a location: it says how many companies registered an address somewhere in that district, and nothing about where they sit inside it. How we counted sets out how a record earns each tier, and why only the top one is ever drawn as a pin.
