Causality Biomodels (incorporated as ‘Alpha Causality Pvt. Ltd’) is an Indo-German life science informatics company which offers high quality computable knowledge-based models of complex multi-factorial diseases. Causality BioModels’ knowledge-based models are mechanisms of diseases, which describe the various cause and effect relationships of all the agents associated with the diseases. The models are developed through the conversion of unstructured text-based data into structured knowledge with the help of advanced text mining tools and subject expert review. This is achieved through the methods of semantic data and information extraction, knowledge integration and the techniques of advanced machine learning in life sciences. The results derived from the analysis of these models will solve a number of problems faced by the global pharmaceutical industry today by providing comprehensive insights on optimal drug discovery strategies. Causality Biomodels is incorporated in Kerala, India, in 2018 under the legal name ‘Alpha Causality Pvt. Ltd’. The company is incubated under the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) in March 2018. The company is founded by Mr. Jossin Antony and Dr. Alpha Tom Kodamullil. The scientific basis of the company rests on the research work by Dr. Tom Kodamullil, who conceived and pioneered the concept of using knowledge based modeling approach to questions in life sciences. She is also the author of many high ranking scientific publications and has also negotiated, planned and conducted many collaborative research projects in the area of neurology & psychiatry in Europe and the USA. Even by the most conservative estimates, Causality Biomodels addresses an immediate market of around €6.4 billion in global drug discovery technology market, particularly in Europe and the USA. Causality Biomodels will initially focus on neurology and psychiatry as large indication areas and will sell disease models to interested parties such as pharmaceutical and biotech companies, research bodies and collaborators in European Union and National Institues of Health (USA) funded projects. The future target markets of Causality Biomodels include the advanced therapeutic segments that rely heavily on the use of enriched disease models which could deliver novel drug target identification, patient stratification and precision medicine.
