Life of a child with disability is very challenging physically and emotionally not one for the child but also for his/her parents and immediate family like siblings and the family members that stay in the same house. For children/ persons with physical disability it is still easy as they can express them self’s and there are many options available for them, however for a child or person with Intellectual Disability they cannot express them self’s only parents can be their voice. As they cannot express them self’s it becomes a very challenging job. Hence this results to not getting a right environment to learn and grow. Talking about challenges it is very challenging especially for their mothers who have to take care of the child it her last breath. She is the only one who in due course of taking care of the child starts to learn about the needs and the abilities of the child. The role of a mother of special needs child to be more precise mother of a child with Intellectual disabilities is the toughest work/job. To help these mothers with special children in training their children so that the children to be less dependent on others for their daily routine work. Special Schools with quality trainers need to be setup. However we do have any proper special school in the district of north Gandhinagar Gujarat, which can give the children proper training, therapy and a learning environment. As per the census of 2011, 0.2% of the population is with children or persons with intellectual disability. However according to our survey there are more the 0.2% of children/persons with intellectual disability as most of the cases go unidentified or unrecorded. In just one village which is urban-rural there are around 100 children with intellectual disabilities, with no proper schools trainer /special educator’s, therapist for our intellectually disabled children. Looking at these many issues a few of the parents come together to be the voice of their children and started working towards imparting them with training & therapies which made the children come out of their houses and socialize with each other and also parents got a helping hand in training and taking care of their children and most of all the parents got an emotional support from each other which was not there otherwise. The children have also become very happy. Various activities are being carried out by our Parents Association like awareness programs celebrating different events with the children, a centre for these special children have also been started giving these children an area to learn play and enjoy. These special children come to the centre and learn activates of daily living, art & craft, vocational activates like making paper pouches, paper bags, festive products like Rakhi, decorative Diyas, making different decorative items.
