Founded by Sangita Thakur, a person with multiple disabilities and over 30 years of corporate and media experience, the startup brings lived experience into its solutions, aiming to dismantle physical, digital, and attitudinal barriers that hinder the participation of PwDs in Indian society. Despite strong policy frameworks like the RPwD Act, 2016 and the Accessible India Campaign, real-world implementation remains weak. There is a lack of standardized accessibility audits, a unified understanding of inclusion across sectors, and trained professionals in the field. Ashtavakra addresses these challenges through its Five-Step Impact Model: Accessibility – Audits and certification for physical and digital environments. Awareness – Sensitization, CSR consulting, and public education. Belonging – Capacity building at all levels, from leadership to grassroots. Compliance – Legal and policy advisory aligned with ESG and CSR goals. Communications – Strategic branding for organizations championing inclusion. The startup's flagship initiative, the Indian Accessibility Certification Program (IACP), is a tech-enabled, tier-based national certification system aligned with legal accessibility standards. It will standardize audits, build capacity, and create a recognized cadre of accessibility auditors, including PwDs. Additional offerings include: AccessMart: A marketplace for disability aids. AccessAggregate: A service aggregator platform. AccessComm: A digital community for PwDs and allies. Revenue is generated through consulting, audits, subscriptions, SaaS tools, training, CSR partnerships, and content sales.
