BTR, Back to Roots - To address the challenges we face in our day today lives, we believe to have answers in our history, which we wish would explore through this initiative hence the name Back to roots, which prompts us to reimagine the way we produce, consume, and dispose materials. Concept of BTR is centered around Well-Being of People and “Empowering Lives.” We aim to create a mass movement and empower everyone with methods and tools to contribute to resolving social and environmental challenges especially in relation to creating a circular economy for pre-consumer and post-consumer textiles.Post-consumer textile waste management - While pre-consumer textile waste processing is gaining momentum and there are solutions available, there are significant challenges in collection, segregation, refurbishment, recycling, processing meaningful and scalable usage of post-consumer textile waste in India for India. For post-consumer textile waste, the solutions available are mostly for downcycling. Hence it is imperative to build significant initiatives to recycle and upcycle Post consumer textile waste resulting in no textile waste to landfills.Key Features of the project1. Focus on Post consumer waste.2. Incentivizing consumers for first stage segregation3. Creating micro collection points for stage 2 segregation (Similar concept of Air BNB but for warehousing)4. Creating local economy for repair, refurbish, reuse. 5. Creating income opportunities for households and informal sector.6. Traceability for material chain of custody.OBJECTIVES of the project - 1. By 2026, empower and engage 300,000 individuals in circular economy. 2. One stop solution for post-consumer textile waste management 3. Divert approx. 3500 Tons of Textile waste from landfills towards Reuse, Re-Purpose and Recycle Concept validation was done by a Pilot run in HCMC, Vietnam.The result of the pilot project is as follows,The pilot project is named RESY RESY – Recycle Easy ! was launched in 6 districts of Ho Chi Minh City(Vietnam) focusing on segregated post-consumer textiles waste collection and recycling, on 8th Sept 2023,1. More than 650 households have registered.2. Approx. 12 Tons of Post consumer textile waste has been segregated and collected. Approx 30% segregated by consumers and rest by collection points.3. Collected and Segregated materials - Approx. 20% is 100%cotton, 40-50% is mix composition (Cotton, Polyester, Elastane) and rest is 100% polyester.4. A group of 6 housewives are engaged in collection, repair, resell and segregation and 2 collectors are engaged.5. For compliance at collection points– Contracts were signed with collection points, Fire extinguisher and Fire Alarm have been provided, Minimum support price has been.6. Trainings have been provided to Collection points (housewives, collectors) and social media followers to improve segregation.7. Traceable chain of material custody and only digital payments.8. 8000 followers on Facebook and 32000 followers on TikTok.9.
