We are focusing in the development of plant based protein products that are more sustainable from the point of environmental impact and nutrition. Today about 18% of the global calorie intake and 37% of protein supply for humans comes from animal sources. But the production of animal protein is a very inefficient and resource-intensive process. Also in the production of food products (proteins) from animal sources the causes of water pollution/consumption, CO2 equivalent emissions, and land pollution are disproportionately high when compared to plant proteins. Globally the overall demand for protein is expected to rise by 30% in 2050 from 2020 levels due to a number of reasons. Mush of this excess protein demand is estimated to come from animal sources putting an additional massive burden on the planet's resources. Thus our firm is focussed on developing these challenging formulations that cover nutrition, taste, sustainability and affordability, so that the demand for animal protein is reduced in the future.
