In September 2019, an Industry Coalition (PACE) of over 30 companies including Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Reliance, Brillon (Formerly SC Johnson) announced the set-up of a new plastic waste management venture in partnership with Karo Sambhav. This venture Circular Sustainability Solutions Private Limited (CSSPL) is an industry owned-and-led, non-compete entity focused on plastic waste management. This venture was set up with a vision to ensure that “No Recyclable Packaging Material Ends -up in Landfills by 2025”. Its focus is to: 1. Set-up a pan-India system for collection and recycling/re-processing of plastic waste 2. Create / Catalyze infrastructure for waste management where required 3. Catalyze innovation for recycling 4. Create awareness on waste management 5. Skill / uplift waste pickers and aggregators CSSPL is being financed by brands through: 1. Equity funding to set-up infrastructure and build the ecosystem 2. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Service fees for covering collection and recycling costs The current EPR target of CSSPL’s member brands is over 300,000 tons/annum. This consortium is currently working on strengthening the ecosystem by setting up its own infrastructure in the following areas. 1. Collection Channels and Sorting Systems 2. Recycling Systems 3. Secondary Material Utilization
