At the human cost end, this vulnerability has directly caused mass casualty events including the Gambia cough syrup tragedy (70+ children, 2022), the Ramnagar poisoning (12 children, 2019), and the Coldrif tragedy (24+ children, 2025) — all traced to falsified or unverified supply chain records. At the economic cost end, India's 6.3 crore MSME logistics operators are locked out of premium markets, trade finance, and export opportunities because they cannot produce verifiable provenance records. The deeper problem is a foundational trust deficit: when physical reality cannot be independently verified at any point in the chain, farmers cannot prove the quality of what they grow, brands cannot prove the integrity of what they sell, regulators cannot protect the citizens they serve, and India cannot command the global market premiums its output deserves.
