About The Startup Growing up in Rohtak, rural Haryana, there was no dearth in milk to feed upon as Gaurav had cattles at his own place. This complies to the fact that Haryana and Punjab has one of the highest per capita consumption of milk in the country. But when he moved to the urban spaces for his higher education, he found that there is a crisis in the availability of good quality milk. On a detailed market survey in many housing societies he came to the conclusion that there is a big gap in the demand and supply of quality milk. To inspect the causes he dived into the field, tracking the crisis way back to the rural spaces. He was accompanied by other team members who grouped together with a shared vision. The first detailed market research was done during the time of an industrial outreach programme with Prem Agro Industries, Bikaner, they found that dairy farmers are struggling for the good quality cattle feeds and other necessary services. They get to know that the improper supply of input with high prices, lack of knowledge and awareness among farmers, low availability and high charging veterinary services and not defined payment system. To enlist, the key problems were- 1. High prices and unavailability of cattle feed leading to poor milk quality and yield. 2. Non-timely availability of qualified Veterinary services for medical issues or cattle breeding leading to deterioration of Cattle health 3. Traditional method of cattle rearing with no technological upgradation and heed to hygiene concerns 4. Unavailability of proper price and market for good quality milks So through this startup they can work on these irregularities and can make the dairy sector a little more organized and adding a bit more value to the farmer’s produce while sharing their burden. Why Startup There are multitude of problems plaguing the Indian dairy industry and they have a holistic approach towards those problems. They are committed to creating an end-to-end solution for all those challenges troubling the dairy farmers. The model straight away tackles the problems as it stands on 4 major pillars, which are as follows- 1. Provision of different varieties of quality cattle feed from major brands in accordance to the herd profiles of the farmers, along with necessary customization for the feed at the best price 2. Regular check-ups of Cattle health, along with vaccine roaster, timely artificial Insemination programmes and call-on-emergency services 3. Technologically upgrading the farms with cost-efficient labour-minimized models with focus on automation and hygiene. 4. Real-time market information, establishing market linkages by setting up Customer base and bringing in institutional buyers in the platform The platform will act as a window to cattle feeds of every type and price range from global players to the local ones in the cattle feed brands, alongside there will be availability of all the dairy farming related accessories that is needed for the farmers. Beyond the merchandising of cattle feed and accessories, there is a subscription-based service model which provides an all-round veterinary services. The subscription model includes free routine checkups of general cattle health parameters, along with on-call emergency veterinary services availed through trained veterinary doctors enlisted with the organisation. The veterinary services are further made comprehensive by making available the critical drugs and medicines or related services like providing best-in-class artificial insemination programmes. Within that subscription model The Better Milk will also provide consultancy for the sustainable growth of the dairy farms, be it through technological upgradation of the farm or by creating a better linkage with dairy marketing. The Better Milk is committed wholeheartedly to make it easier for the farms to manage, along with an increase in the farm’s income and sustainable growth.
