In their own words
Dasaka Energy solutions provides innovative and specialized components for renewable energy sector. We have two verticals, one for engineering consultancy and another for energy sector. We specialize in design and development of liquid hydrogen cylinders and solid-state batteries suitable for transportation vehicles running on Hydrogen. Because of the push for green and renewable energy sources, the industry is embracing Hydrogen for its next generation vehicles and equipment. Hydrogen has high energy content per unit mass (120 KJ/ kg) but has very poor volumetric calorific value (8 MJ/Litre). Because of this, very big cylinders are required to carry Hydrogen in room temperature conditions. This is limiting its usage for automotive, aerospace, and marine applications. Gaseous Hydrogen has a density of 0.08077 kg/m3 whereas liquid hydrogen has 71.14 kg/m3 density. Instead of transporting it in gaseous state, liquid or cryo-compressed hydrogen reduces the volume by 880 times. But it needs to be stored at 20K to 40K at 3 bar pressure. As we must operate at cryogenic temperatures, insulation, and active removal of heat from liquid body is crucial. For the best insulation we employ three layers of packing viz., Multi-layer insulation, vacuum jacket and aerogel padding. Our cylinders can carry liquid Hydrogen at cryogenic temperatures and atmospheric pressure. They are compact and modelled as plug and play devices. They can be replaced once the fuel is over which makes the charging time zero. They can arrest Hydrogen from evaporation for about 6 days. It makes them suitable for wide variety of applications such as overhaul trucks. The weight of the Hydrogen fuel tank system is comparable to diesel fuel tank but 1/3 of the EV system. It helps in improving the milage of the vehicles. Our unique design minimizes the hydrogen penetration and leakage losses which is a great concern for environmental and hazardous reasons. The sizes of our cylinders include 0.5 kg, 0.75 kg, 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg with very different designs and arrangements to suit different applications. Active minimization of boil-off of the liquid Hydrogen requires special device to remove heat. Cryocoolers are best for such applications where space is limited, and cryogenic temperatures need to be achieved. The mass of these coolers is less and operated on sterling cycle to achieve 20 K temperature at the tip. But the cost is very high as we must import it from Europe or USA. Dasaka eSol has a long-term plan to build these cryocoolers in the country. This will make the country self-reliant and reduces costs greatly. Present cylinders do not employ cryocoolers due to high capex. Metallic hydrides such as Vanadium, LaNi5 or Zirconium hydrides absorb hydrogen to higher volumes than storing as liquid hydrogen. Using these rare earth materials, we can make transporting hydrogen more economical and efficient. At Dasaka eSol, we are designing unique batteries that can store 1kg of Hydrogen that can fit a car hood. As this requires some experimentation, we have long term plans for the same. To sum up, our company is specializing in storing and transportation of Hydrogen which is essential in Hydrogen economy there by achieving net zero targets. We presently focus on liquid Hydrogen cylinders to cater to transportation industry. Presently we are in ideation and design phase. We have aggressive plans to launch the cylinders by early 2024. To cover our operating costs and support the product development, we are currently engaged with industry leaders to deliver engineering services. These services include design, computer aided engineering and prototype building. We are designated channel partner for Altair India and catering in data science domain. We have unique way of services such as open research lab where any talented working or non-working professionals can take up tasks and complete the job without onboarding with us. This platform can utilize untapped talent in the industry and reduces the costs for the industry at the same time. We will file for patent on the liquid storage cylinders and solid-state batteries in two months. Our unique solutions will help fast pace with the green initiates of the country.
