Development Leaders For India is a flagship program of Kayantar Foundation. Kayantar Foundation intends to work in marginalized communities and make those communities capable of living with dignity by building the right set of eco-system for them and enhancing their capability to improve their socio-economic conditions. This program intends to create development professionals who would go on to lead the change to improve the infrastructure, accessibility and quality of livelihood, education and health in the underserved communities. The individuals who will be a part of this program will act as a connection between the District Administration (Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate) and the sarpach and community members of each village in a district (intervention area). In each intervention area we will place 6 individuals. Out of these 6, 3 will be local and the remaining 3 will be from outside the community (majorly from tier 1 and tier 2 cities). We will make 3 pairs for each theme, i.e. livelihood, education and health with one local and one non-local individual constituting each pair for peer learning. We will introduce the individuals to different aspects, skill sets, knowledge and perspectives of development intervention, that is required to design, implement, manage, monitor and evaluate a project in the social sector. The individuals will engage in activities for each theme to create enhanced opportunities for livelihood and income, quality education and better access to quality health. The entire model will operate through an app in which community member, sarpach and the district administration will be able to communicate through an app and raise concerns as well figure out pathways for solutions. Every time a concern is rasied through the concerned department would be notified along with the DC/DM and a timeline will be provided for its solution.
