Dreamshaala is a social impact edtech startup with a mission of bringing high quality education to every student transcending the digital divide. We intend to do so by disrupting the affordable offline coaching industry for school-going kids in rural areas and urban slums. Our model involves setting up projector-classroom centers where one-year integrated courses covering school syllabus and competitive exam syllabus (eg Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sainik schools etc.) are offered. Live classes for integrated courses would be streamed in these micro-classroom centers with the help of projectors. The teacher, whose live class would be streamed simultaneously across 200+ classrooms, would be remotely located. To begin with, separate batches would be held for grade 5-6 and grade 7-8. These micro centers would be comprised in the home of a village resident, who would act as the ‘classroom facilitator’. The classroom would be technology driven with a mobile app responsible for student registration, student attendance, homework checking through OMRs, assessment checking through OMR, recording student responses from quizzes during class hours and other aspects of the classroom. While thousands of students would be watching the live classes simultaneously, Dreamshaala classrooms would have features that give the classroom the feeling of a live class rather than a recorded lecture. For instance, keeping students engaged during the classroom with quizzes, wherein student responses would be recorded and appreciation given for top performers during the class itself using innovative solution of OCR and paper clickers. Also, each class would have a separate WhatsApp group and report cards displaying metrics related to attendance, homework, classroom quizzes and assessments would be circulated on these groups on a fortnightly basis. This way, gamification would be a key component of our product. Students would be able to lodge their doubts via WhatsApp / regular calling.
