The substrate holder is heated radiatively, by conductively coupled radio frequency. Heating can be provided internally (cold wall reactor) or externally (hot wall reactor). In order to improve the flow dynamics and uniformity of the films, rotating substrate holders have been designed. Because CVD can be used for large-scale production, reactors have been built that allow simultaneous deposition on many substrates: barrel reactors, pancake reactors, and rotating disk reactors.
