We can induce locally available feed ingredients like Apple pomace as an alternative in place of conventional feed ingredients like wheat & maize, both in poultry as well as in cattle feed manufacturing in kashmir region. As we know poultry is the fastest growing agricultural sub sector is expected to grow as demand for meat & eggs is driven by a growing population, rising incomes & urbanization.Innovation & proven nutritional solutions are crucial to maximize the production. Food safety and meat quality are the main priority. This sector is facing unprecedented challenges, In light of this, high quality feed ingredients like apple pomace are a decisive part of the feed solutions.Apple pomace a by product of juice processing industry is a rich source of many nutrients including carbohydrates, minerals, fibres etc.Feed expenditures has a considerable percentage of cost in livestock production, especially upto 80% of costs in poultry. Therefore it was investigated alternative feed ingredients in poultry & ruminant diets. During the apple processing procedures a large amount of amount of apple pomace is generated which contains peel,core,seed,calyx,stem & soft tissue but for apple juice manufacturing units it is only a waste.Disposable of apple pomace is costly,therefore, the development of potential commercial applications for apple pomace is a growing field of research interest.Given the potential nutrient value of apple pomace, as well as pollution aspect & financial demands of apple pomace disposal, apple pomace should be considered for use as replacement feed in animal ration.So many researches have demonstrated that dried apple pomace have substantial potential value as animal feed stuff. Thus cereals can be largely replaced by this by product & consequently the competition between humans & animals for nutrition can be decreased. An intensive feeding system based on locally available feed ingredients like apple pomace in our region kashmir to rear ruminant animals economically. These feed ingredients can also be used as strategic feeding for animals during feed scarcity periods. Recently I have done a training program in sher-e-Kashmir university of Agricultural sciences & technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K)for establishment of feed mill for production of livestock, poultry & fish feeds on commercial basis & their quality control.where it was demonstrated how apple pomace can b safely incorporated as a feed at the rate of 10% in ration of poultry feed & 30% in the ration of cattle feed. Studies have shown apple pomace to be a safe animal feed ingredient.
