GOL Green Energy LLP is a company involved in the production of biodiesel. Biodiesel is produced through the transesterification of vegetable oil, animal fat feedstock, and other non-edible raw materials. This process consists of converting the base oil into mono-alkyl esters of long-chain fatty acids using an alcohol such as methanol or ethanol. Biodiesel has combustion properties similar to petroleum diesel and can replace in most current uses. In biodiesel production, methanol is typically made from fossil fuels, but there are also sources of renewable methanol made from carbon dioxide or biomass feedstocks. In addition, a by-product of the transesterification process is glycerol, produced at 100 kg per tonne of biodiesel. Although the market price for crude glycerol has decreased with the increase in global biodiesel production, research is being conducted globally to use glycerol as a chemical building block.
