Traditional Biomass/biogas based technologies operate at a larger scale (25+ kilowatts), requires large feedstock requirements. Grassroots Energy can operate sub-10kW systems from unprocessed-biogas OR ANY agri-waste to generate electricity for 24X7. This ability is unique to Grassroots’s micro-CHP technology when combined with the Multifuel gassifier OR biogas digester. The small generation size solves logistical problems associated with current biomass-based power generation solutions. Grassroots plans to demonstrate small-scale 24X7 biogas powered mini-grids which are sustainable, reliable and economically viable. Implementation of these solutions will prove that millions of tons of waste, that otherwise go discarded or under-utilized, can be used as fuel for power generation results in the expansion of energy access. Our approach addresses the problems associated with traditional bioenergy systems in two ways. • Innovative multi-fuel micro-CHP (65-70% efficiency) produces 24X7 electricity and thermal energy (10X of diesel-generators and 2X of Solar-PV) with low-maintenance. • Innovative multi-fuel gassifier that can operate continuously (12-24hours) thus reducing waste-to-energy logistics. Grassroots Energy is in discussions with Rockefeller Foundation’s SMART Power initiative to set up 1000 minigrids in India to generate and distribute energy in remote locations. Our solution is less expensive (CAPEX and OPEX) over Solar and Diesel. The solution is designed for continuous operations reducing the need for large battery-storage (like in soalr).
