BONO is a peer-to-peer ridesharing (carpooling) application, launched on the 1st of September (on Play store), in Delhi(NCR). It’s a platform that enables people to travel together by connecting people with similar travel requirements and helping them reduce their travel costs. Apart from the monetary benefit of sharing costs, BONO’s users also get to know how much CO2 emissions they have prevented by virtue of sharing. Bono’s proprietary emission calculator can provide a credible measure of an organisation’s overall preventions of carbon emissions for any specified period, when it’s employees carpool to work everyday. It’s a “supply based” business which means that no new vehicles are added on the road to satisfy the travel needs of users, rather the focus is on increasing the occupancy of the vehicles already present on the road which translates to a reduction in traffic and less pollution. The app is very simple to use: you just have to input your travel requirements (source, destination, time, preferences etc) and the app returns you with the list of users you can share your travel with. You can then send/receive “join” request and have the option of accepting/rejecting after viewing the profiles. BONO has a three-tier automatic user verification system that ensures security of its users. People have the option of choosing who they wish to travel with (Aadhaar verified, Corporate verified, same gender, own group etc). In app chatting ensures privacy as users are not obliged to share their personal contacts (for coordination) if they don’t wish to. A wallet-based system ensures that there is no need to exchange money after each ride and it also helps to eliminate the awkwardness of asking money from people.
