IOT Smart Bin is a smart product built by social startup Excell Infrastructures Pvt Ltd with for-profit motive. The product is an exclusive blend of business and social objectives. It merges aspects of Solid Waste Management (SWM), Internet of Things (IoT) and Out Of Home (OOH) Advertising. IOT Smart Bin integrates 24 square feet cylindrical LED backlit advertisement display with sensor-equipped dustbins. These are placed in high footfall areas like parks, sidewalks, bus stands and metro stations. Features like Air Pollution Sensors, Camouflaged CCTV Camera, and Solar Powered makes it perfect to make the area smarter, safer and cleaner. Smart sensors and modern technology make it ready for the implementation in the upcoming smart cities, especially in India. It has been modeled in a way to reduce the risks of damage or theft on the streets. It is line with the central government’s vision of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Startup India, and Smart Cities Mission. The support from the government and CSR activities by companies is the opportunity which will help in scalability of the product in shorter time. The twin bins have been designed to segregate waste during collection. The color codes (blue-green) will help in educating the public regarding segregation of waste, along with providing the required infrastructure for throwing trash at public places. The IOT sensors send the data to the SWM department, therefore help in smarter logistics decision making. This saves time, effort and cost (fuel and HR cost) as all bins do not need to be checked manually. The route will be optimized using maps integration. It also makes it very relevant for sewage collection, segregation and recycling are turning to be a huge challenge for emerging nations. To address air pollution, the pollution sensors generate area wise real-time data of the air pollution based on 4 parameters. The availability of data will enable the relevant bodies to implement effective solutions at the grass root level. The high definition CCTV camera that is hidden in the ‘IOT Smart Bin’ is located at a strategic height from the ground, which gives a clearer and better surveillance of the street. Identifying traffic offenders, eve teasers are easier. It saves video footage of 7-10 days which can be used by the civic authorities when required. The inbuilt speakers which can be operated virtually from our command center can be used to create public awareness or disseminate information. From an announcement of taking a deviation because the road is being repaired ahead to playing jingles related to social schemes, can be easily done. It is equipped with solar energy which is remotely monitored using IOT technology. It produces enough power to operate all the devices in the unit for 1-2 days. Real-time status of the battery can be also checked. The backlit billboards of the IOT Smart Bins are green energy powered. They are aerodynamically designed to be installed at near to eye level at public places. It has been designed in a manner in which it does not hurt the commuters or take up a lot of ground area on the streets.
