Jalyan is a unique ‘phygital’ platform for fisheries, at the intersection of agritech and fintech, by taking a hybrid approach of combining digital and emerging technologies with the physical and field-based localized aspects of fisheries. Jalyan’s social impact focused platform is adopting an integrated approach to address some of the key problems in the Indian fisheries sector, including inadequate market access, multi-level structured data gaps, narrow financial inclusion, poor digital literacy, unscientific practices, environmental degradation, water pollution, low farm productivity, costly inputs, unsustainable livelihoods and farm fragmentation, amongst other issues. With a mantra to ‘power the blue economy’, Jalyan is developing intelligent technologies, predictive tools, data-driven outcomes, proven practices, efficient market linkages, financial access pathways, risk management tools, capacity building, farmer-centric models, farm aggregation, community partnerships, customized engagements and sustainable solutions to catalyze value creation for the overall ecosystem and value chain in fisheries.
