World wide ban on single use plastic and the recent ban on single use plastic by India and few other countries has triggered a need for replacing single use plastic in paper and paper boards with a viable, sustainable eco friendly alternative. Barrier coating with aqueous chemicals that are eco friendly in terms of recyclability, compostability and food safety have emerged as a promising immediate alternative. But it warrants a clear understanding of the end-to-end paper making process that impacts the Barrier performance in coating application. The proposed project highlights the Barrier coating of paper and paper boards for Water Barrier, Oil & Grease Barrier for application in food, beverage and packaging industries such as paper cups, Food wraps and edible packaging boxes.
