Kannauj Itra Pvt. Ltd. is strategically located in Kannauj, a region where around 300 units process rose flowers to produce rose water and rose oil. While the focus has traditionally been on extracting essential oils— which account for only 0.02% to 0.03% of the total flower— the process generates a significant amount of residue. This residue is often discarded as industrial waste, leading to both environmental pollution and a waste of valuable resources. Furthermore, no systematic investigation has been conducted to explore the potential of this residue, limiting its utilization and hindering industry growth. Through our research, we have found that rose residue is rich in phenolic acids with antioxidant properties, suggesting a promising application in industries such as food, medicine, and cosmetics. This discovery lays the foundation for transforming waste into valuable products, not only in the production of rose water and essential oils but also in exploring other flowers and herbs used in the essential oil industry. Conducting in-depth research on these by-products will enable us to maximize their potential, turning waste into resources and contributing to sustainable development.
