Keriya Green Energy Pvt. Ltd. is a rural start-up led by villagers and women from the remote regions of Western Rajasthan. The initiative focuses on establishing a 2.6 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant to harness the region’s abundant sunlight and convert the desert landscape into a hub of clean and sustainable energy. By combining local skills with modern solar technology, the start-up promotes rural employment, women’s empowerment, and long-term socio-economic development. Western Rajasthan offers some of the best solar conditions in India, with high solar irradiation of 5.5–6.5 kWh/m²/day, vast stretches of barren non-agricultural land, and clear sunny weather throughout the year. These factors make solar power generation highly feasible, efficient, and cost-effective. Additionally, strong government support through solar policies, incentives, and reliable transmission infrastructure further strengthens the viability of the project. Keriya Green Energy has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Jodhpur Vidhyut Vitran Nigam Limited at a tariff of ₹3.03 per unit. The plant is expected to generate about 34 lakh units of electricity per year, resulting in an annual revenue of approximately ₹1.03 crore. With annual operation and maintenance costs of around ₹15 lakh, the net annual profit is estimated at ₹88 lakh. The project cost of ₹7.5–8 crore ensures a payback period of about 8.5 to 9 years, with strong profitability over the plant’s 25-year operational life. The project delivers significant economic, environmental, and social benefits. It offsets nearly 3,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, requires minimal maintenance, and causes negligible ecological disturbance. Locally, it creates jobs in installation, maintenance, security, and technical supervision, reduces migration, and supports small businesses and agriculture through reliable electricity supply. Women’s active participation enhances financial independence and strengthens community development.
