Over the past year we have built Story Box – a Library-in-a-Box. Story Box is essentially an ATM of literature that prints short engaging content, at the press of a button. In its standard form, it houses thousands of engaging and enriching short stories, poems, interesting facts, puzzles and large books. Content is regularly added, remotely. Easy access to engaging short content encourages more children to read, who otherwise may be intimidated by the process of borrowing or buying books. Story Box thus works as an anchor for a school’s reading activities, or even as a substitute for a traditional library. We introduced the product to the market in November 2021, and have received an extremely positive response. Over 27,000 print-outs have been taken by users, from the 9 machines that we have on the ground. The numbers indicate the immense potential for impact that the product has. The design, technology and content has been entirely developed by the team at Library Solutions. Library Solutions is a social enterprise, striving to develop opportunities that make learning informal and engaging. The entity is constituted as a registered partnership firm (June 15, 2020) and is promoted by two professionals with experience in the corporate and impact space. The entity has so far been bootstrapped by the promoters, who are both from the IIMs. As we try to reach Story Box to a larger number of users and validate the concept before we reach out to external investors, some element of grant funding would be a great support for the bootstrapped entity.
