INTELLIGENT PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM (IPTS) An ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE based IOT enabled Real-Time Information System for improving the efficiency of Public Transport The world has entered the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is driven by seamless automation, endless connectivity and characterized by merging physical and digital advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, the internet of things, and blockchain. The growing importance and maturity of artificial intelligence (AI) bring opportunities to people and economies. Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Public Transport System, is the first study in Kerala to be conducted by Linuse Technology Solution (LTS). The year-long project commenced in late 2018 with the following insight collection approach: a review of literature, quantitative survey, use-cases, experts’ blogs, expert roundtable, and ideation workshops. The recent boom of artificial intelligence (AI) over the last decade has been triggered by advances in machine learning and deep learning. Many industries are adopting AI and integrating this technology into their services and products, impacting peoples’ everyday life. The objective of this project is to demystify AI, raise awareness in the public transport sector. The public transportation system provides as the heart in the social and economic growth of the country. While selecting for the public-transport, time and forbearance square measure of a lot of concern. Human traveling on public-transport found their loss of the time attributable to waiting at the bus-stops. The market has an inclination towards saving time and expects convenience at a cheaper cost. So a method is needed to provide a time period vehicle pursuit and to find the situation of the bus to show live pictures on the Google Map or web site app for pursuit location of buses anytime. The Intelligent Public Transport System (IPTS) is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based IoT enabled Real-Time Information System for improving the efficiency of the Public Transport System. This project aims to address the above needs using the existing resources, with a minor upgrade. It provides the solution for tracking the buses on smartphones, fetches current occupancy and prediction of occupancy at upcoming stops to make wiser decisions, regulated flow of buses to maintain the frequency of the buses on the route. Real-time bus location tracker and occupancy details are provided by an IoT device that gives location data using GPS and updates the occupancy details through the internet using the mobile network. The bus conductor’s handheld ticketing machine sends data about the number of people who are traveling on the bus based on their boarding point and destination. Bus arrival and crowd prediction are done by fetching location and occupancy data from the IoT device to the user interface. Prediction of seat occupancy at upcoming stops to make commuter take wiser decisions is also done additionally. Alternate bus connections are suggested based on bus location and occupancy. An Android-application interface is implemented to map the buses running on different routes. So the buses are monitored live exploitation with this technology and user get inform once the bus arrived in his/her predefined space. It can easily display bus details, current occupancy, and predicted occupancy for upcoming stops, estimated time of arrival and duration of the journey. Alternate bus connections to the destination with their journey duration and occupancy details are given through rerouting. It also provides fast and time period replay for inquiry, via the server additionally just in case of any sudden activities or breakdown, the alert is sent to the system. The resultant of the project would a system comprising of IoT device and cloud to perform. METHODOLOGY AND APPROACH Basic Methodology: Development of an embedded device that could be easy to attach along with the ticket wending machine, which sends data about the number of people who are traveling in the bus based on their boarding point and destination. Each bus is equipped with a smartphone. We create an application which transmits data about the location of the bus. It also includes the occupancy details and seat availability of the bus with regards the data from the ticket wending machine. The data about the occupancy is up-dated whenever a ticket is issued and at every bus stop. This helps us to maintain a precise count. People can also use the booking facility, can track the the data of occupancy on similar days, we show up a predicted value as seat probability in the bus. Data Availability: All the data is stored in the cloud, making it can accessible to every user.
