We are addressing the growing global pandemic of deteriorating mental health. Mental wellbeing is the foundation without which we cannot expect high performance, however well trained or skilled an individual might be. Even though mental health is a prerequisite, it alone does not guarantee high performance. For it to happen, relevant mental and emotional skills have to also be learnt which are specific to the modern work context. The skills that we offer are often the most cited skills that leaders wish their people had. But these are not taught in either conventional educational systems or in traditional L&D programs. The need for these inner skills will only increase going forward as more and more jobs requiring outer skills get automated. As corporate work environments become more stressful by every passing day we stand at a tipping point in the mental health crisis. If this is not immediately tackled it could become the next full blown pandemic, something the modern society is poorly equipped to handle.
