Deshaj Labs (legal name Mandar Education and Research Foundation) is a not-for-profit Section-8 Company. It intends to unlock rural and semi-urban economies by creating and nurturing sustainable local innovation ecosystems in three areas - agriculture, biodiversity and MSME Clusters. To facilitate this, Deshaj Labs is building a set of technologies, platforms and public infrastructures which could be used for value augmentation in the entire value chain of the three identified ecosystems - from raw materials to the final product to retail to beyond. For example:1. It is developing *Prakriti App* which is a web and mobile application aimed at connecting nature enthusiasts, citizen scientists, and researchers in a collaborative platform for biodiversity documentation and exploration. Inspired by the success of iNaturalist, Prakriti aims to provide an intuitive and interactive platform for users to contribute their observations, learn about species, and contribute to scientific research. It places a special emphasis on promoting biodiversity awareness and conservation efforts in India. The app will also bring nurseries, plant breeders and seed creators on its platform so that quality farm inputs could also be channelized through this platform.2. It is developing a organic fertilizer making facility combined with a soil testing facility so that customized organic fertilizers could be created on the basis of type of soil and type of crops grown.3. It is setting up a Rural Tech Park having a Start-up Incubator, Shared Facilities, Technology Demonstrations, Labs for the following:a. Agri-Inputs: Tissue-culture lab, plant-breeding lab, organic fertilizers, pesticides, animal feeds b. Smart Agriculture c. Robust supply chain infrastructure – complete end to end tracking d. Food processing, packaging, branding, certification e. Network of FPOs, Nurseries, Retail stores. f. Capacity building of farmers.4. It is creating one more platform and a set of labs for: a. Profiling of Stakeholders: Profiles and portfolios of various stakeholders will be created and categorized as per their position and role in the local cluster/ ecosystem. b. Input – Output – Process Mapping: Process and relationship maps will be created using inputs, outputs, by-products and processes of all units involved in various stages of the value-creation chain. c. Standardization and Dissemination: Production processes of at least 10 products per cluster will be standardized through collaborative R&D and knowledge so obtained will be disseminated to the stakeholders. d. Adoption and its Facilitation: Adoption of standardized production processes will be encouraged. Shared facilities, infrastructure and incentive structures will be developed for widespread adoption.
