Mango is the “King of fruits” cultivated in 23.12 LAKH ha with annual production 15.03 million tons in India, 40.48% of world production. Andhra Pradesh is abundant of commercial cultivation of many varieties like Totapuri, Neelum, Banganapalli, Alphonso and Kalapadi. Chittoor has developed into one of the main mango growing belts in South India. Water table has been dropping down dangerously in the last two decades and bore well irrigation has become a necessity. Farmers should be trained in Hi-tech mango cultivation, adoption of high- density planting, use of fertigation, proper methods of harvesting etc. Alternate bearing of fruits in mango tress is serious problem, which has to be solved through proper application of suitable hormones. Increase productivity by improved cross-pollination, Organic farming and Natural farming. Enhancing the quality of fruit by scientific applications of eco-friendly pesticides and fruit regulators. Reduce vulnerability to external price or weather shocks by including early, mid-season and late varieties and/or more sturdy varieties.
