In their own words
Mindpsy Psychological Services Private Limited is a mental health startup established in late October 2023.The goal of our startup is to bridge the gap between available mental health services and people in need of mental health care. Though a lot is discussed about mental health but unlike other health related issues this aspect lacks the thrust which is badly needed in this area. As per information provided by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), there are just 3,372 clinical Psychologists registered with RCI as of July 2023 and. As per various report available in public domain Close to 160 to 170 million people in India suffer from common and severe mental disorders. It is alarming to know that India is the world's suicide capital with over 2.6 lakh cases of suicide in a year. In 2017, India had 197.3 million persons with mental disorders, accounting for 14.3% of the country's total population. The additional costs of mental diseases are substantially larger than the direct costs, according to the World Economic Forum (WEF), i.e., the negative economic consequences of not treating mental illness outweigh the costs of therapy. In India, government spending on mental health accounts for only 0.06% of the total health expenditure. In India, there are 0.329 mental health outpatient services per 100,000 people. In general hospitals, there are 0.82 beds per 100,000 people. Only 43 mental hospitals with 1.469/100,000 beds and 0.047/100,000 psychologists and 0.301/100,000 psychiatrists exist in India. Qualified personnel are scare; the availability of mental health nurses is 0.166/100,000, and that of social workers is 0.033/100,000. There are 0.07 psychologists and 0.07 social workers per 100,000 people in India. Although awareness and perception of mental health and mental illnesses have improved post covid. A recent study reflected that 74% of Indians suffered from stress while 88% suffered from some kind of anxiety disorder. Adolescents in India are particularly vulnerable to mental health problems like anxiety disorders and depression. Official reports have stated that among Indians aged 13-17 years, the prevalence of severe mental illness was 7.3%. Some of the symptoms include increased heart rates, hyperventilation, chronic fatigue and difficulties with concentration. Studies reported a significant increase in the number of cases of stress and anxiety among Indians since the pandemic. The resources are very scarce as well as not streamlined. Not only the psychologists are less in numbers they are not available in remote areas where the need of mental is no less. Mental illness carries a significant social stigma in Indian society, leading to discrimination and social exclusion for individuals with mental health problems. The stigma surrounding mental illness often stems from misconceptions, fear, and a lack of awareness. This stigma creates barriers to seeking help and support, as individuals may fear judgment, rejection, or negative consequences. Consequently, individuals may delay or avoid seeking treatment, resulting in inadequate or delayed care and further exacerbating their condition which can be overcome through the use of technology and our app will help in this direction. Our app Mindsy has two goals: 1) to create a directory of licensed allied mental health professionals ( clinical psychologists, speech therapists , special educators etc ) in one place giving people easy access to book their services ; 2) a cost effective way to deal with mild to moderate common mental health problems I.e anxiety, stress , depression using self-help tools provided and developed by us and can be used using the platform in our app. So, mass use can be made available at very low cost and if self-help is not able to resolve the problem the next stage would be to have psychologist session in person or online. Our goal is to streamline access to help for ease to service user. Our app will help to guide you to self- help tools in our app. And, our directory will be available for booking for face to face therapy, online or offline. It’s a one stop for your mental health needs, since in some other platform the same services are available with other health services but this would be first of its kind in mental health space. We have further plans to include various other services such as guided self- help, peer to peer support, relaxation or guided meditation etc. The current model is Business to customer, however, we see use in corporate partnerships so there is scope for business to business movements as well. At present the company is bootstrapped. Further tools are being added to the existing app and company plans to launch its digital and electronics reach programme in the third week of January 2024 and that would initially run for one year and that part would also entail huge expense. The app is available on android and apple play store as well. The name of the app is MINDSY and we have also go
