In their own words

Marriage is an essential part of life for every individual (man and woman) living in the society. Searching of a good match or life partner is very crucial for a successful marriage life. However, in process of searching a good match, people face difficulties or challenges in the matchmaking market from various angles. The following are some of the problems identified in the matchmaking market in India. 1. Domination of unorganized matchmakers: The matchmaking market in India is highly dominated by fragmented unorganized players. 2. High prices: The organized matchmaking companies largely offer their services over the online platforms. However, the prices charged by both organized and unorganized companies/individuals are ranging from Rs.5000 – Rs.35000, which is very high and not affordable to every class of people. 3. Charging at each step of searching: Three are many companies and independent matchmaking agents who charge for each step in the search process like registration fee, monthly subscriptions, renewal fee for maintaining profile on website/mobile app, after marriage settlement fee, etc., which are not affordable for every person. 4. Limited or restricted access to profiles: Here, both the organized and unorganized matchmaking companies or individuals give access to limited profiles based on their subscription plan. For instance, if a customer subscribed a plan which has a limited access to connect to profiles like 30 profiles, 50 profiles, etc. After reaching that numbers, a customer cannot have access to connect to profiles unless he/she renewed their subscription plan. 5. Low-customer value based subscription plans: There are many companies like Shaadi.com, Jeevansathi.com, mubarakrishte.com and so on, who offer various subscription plans such as gold plan, silver plan, diamond plan, etc., where each plan has different offering features based on registration fee, account validity, search, access to profiles, marriage fixation/settlement fees, payment mode like onetime payment offer, etc. However, many of such plans do not offer customer value. For instance, companies lured customers to pay for annual plan but he/she might find their match in 1 or 2 months. On the other side, if customer selects lowest plan with minimum features like less number of profile access or 1-month validity then he/she might exhaust them and ended without finding their match. 6. Security issues of Girls photos: The cases of misusing female photos from matrimonial platforms are growing. Parents of girls are becoming more concern on this issue and no companies are taking measures to address. Especially Muslim community who keenly adhere to the hijab practice are reluctant and fear to share their photos on online platforms. 7. Encouraging dating culture: The organized online matchmaking companies offer chat feature where a man and woman can chat before they call or meet. This feature has less pros than cons where it has been witnessed many cases that people started chatting and out of excitement, that chatting led to multiple dating or physical relation without informing parents. 8. Preference of local touch: Despite the big national matchmaking brands like Shaadi.com, people are still more incline in putting their trust especially for matchmaking service on local person or company. This is the reason for the existence and domination of local independent individual match makers. 9. Muslim community in Hyderabad, Telangana, a matchmaking market: There are many locally designed websites for matrimonial matching services for Muslim community in Hyderabad, Telangana. However, they are also fall under the above mentioned category – high price with less customer value. Here, in Hyderabad, majority of people opt 3 modes for matchmaking service. They are: • Local newspaper ads - on an average, 4000-5000 paper ads of matches published weekly. The minimum cost of publishing one ad is Rs.500-Rs.700 • WhatsApp group – there are hundreds of WhatsApp groups created for matchmaking at individual level and group level. Here, the challenge of searching, validating, meeting profile requirements/expectations exist. • Independent individual local matchmaking agent - 10. Branding: Companies started segmenting matchmaking market on the basis of community (Hindu, Muslim, Christian, etc.), language (Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, etc.), and geography (cities, tier 1, tier 2, and tier 3). And, accordingly they brand their services. The operation style of such matchmaking companies largely the same where they offer various subscription plans (ranging from Rs.5000 to Rs.35000) in terms of validity and features. However, so far there is no such brand for Muslims community of Hyderabad and Telangana market where the people of Telangana districts always give high value to Hyderabadi matches. 11. Marriage related businesses: The marriage related businesses like banquet halls, function halls, jewellers, Chefs, catering services, event manageme

What we do not know

We have no liveness signal for any company on this site: no filings feed, no revenue, no check that the website still resolves. A startup existing here means a startup exists, not that a business is trading.
