Mynvax is developing a next generation recombinant influenza vaccine. The background IP and patents have been exclusively licensed from the Indian Institute of Science. Current Influenza vaccines have to be produced every year; the production process is cumbersome. Mynvax's new technology will make the recombinant vaccine more effective and easy to produce. The production process allows scalability and will greatly enhance vaccine production especially in the event of a pandemic outbreak. Influenza vaccines are generally inactivated viruses or live attenuated viruses. Therefore the production of vaccines requires a virus culture facility. The current vaccines are made in hens egg. A vaccine dose requires one hen egg. Therefore to meet country's requirement, millions of eggs are required. The production and release process takes 6 months. The new recombinant influenza vaccine will be made in microbial systems and will take much less time. There will be no need of using virus or hens egg. Importantly instead of producing the virus and inactivating it, the new vaccine will be a recombinant protein which is present in the virus. This protein has been re-designed in such a manner that it can now confer both a) seasonal protection and b) multi-season protection. There are many innovations built into Mynvax's next generation vaccine that makes the product innovative, improved and scalable.
