NIRNAYAI builds optimization software and sells it as SaaS. The problems we work on are ones every organisation faces daily. Which staff to post where. Which job to run on which machine. How to route vehicles, allot exam centres, plan shifts. These sound simple, but when the numbers are large and the rules are many, no person can work out the best answer by hand. In India most of this is still done in Excel, or by one or two people who have done it for years and know the rules by heart. It works until the scale grows. After that the results become inconsistent, hard to explain to anyone who questions them, and usually far from the best possible. Nobody has fixed this because operations research is a small field. Very few people can build these models, and foreign software costs too much and does not understand how things work here. What we do is take the rules an organisation already follows and write them as mathematical constraints. A solver then searches the combinations and finds the best answer that breaks no rule. We use constraint programming and mixed integer programming, and machine learning where something has to be forecast. The answer comes in minutes instead of days, and can be explained afterwards. The new part is not the solver. Optimization in India is sold as consulting, one project at a time. We are turning it into a product that can be configured and reused, so an operations team can run it without hiring an OR specialist. Once we build an engine for one problem type, it works for many organisations, and for one district or a whole state, without cost rising in the same proportion. The same approach applies in government, education, power, manufacturing, logistics, workforce planning and aviation. We are also building related tools for operations, maintenance and compliance. Being a subscription product, it earns recurring revenue and saves real money for whoever uses it. We want to build this capability in India and hire people here.
