UAVs today are limited in endurance. As demand for longer flights grows, operators resort to “brute-force sizing” by adding batteries and larger motors for marginal gains, driving up ownership and operating costs. The root cause is heavy radial motors that have plateaued technologically. Oersted Motors addresses this by redesigning the propulsion system itself. Our single-stator, double-rotor axial-flux motor will deliver over 50 % higher torque density than current radial units, enabling UAVs to carry heavier payloads or fly at least 20 % longer without re-engineering the aircraft, effectively letting operators step up an aircraft class without the additional costs. We have a basic 3-D proof-of-concept and are finalising electromagnetic and thermal simulations. Sixteen months after seed funding we will reach a bench-tested TRL 7 prototype. Long-term defensibility stems from topology-specific design, novel cooling, custom manufacturing, and matched controller firmware that cannot be replicated by simply scaling magnets. Revenue begins with plug-and-play propulsion kits for mid-size drone OEMs in India before expanding globally. The UAV propulsion market is projected to hit $3 billion by 2035; capturing even $150 million, comparable to today’s top players, is plausible. By solving the power-to-weight bottleneck first, we set axial-flux motors on course to become the default across all UAV classes, making flights safer, cleaner, and more profitable.
