In 21st century, the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) cause, in the USA only, 2 million illnesses, 23,000 deaths and a societal cost of $35 billion for lost productivity. India is a hotbed for AMR infections which is associated with high morbidity and mortality (roughly 416.75 per 100,000 persons) as compared to the US (roughly 200 per 100,000 persons). Combinations of broad-spectrum antibiotics are current standard of care therapy but increasingly plagued by recurrent infections. According to NAP-AMR 2017-21, our nation in the urgent need for the development of new antimicrobials and antibiotic resistance breakers to restore effectiveness of older classes of antibiotics for AMR infections. The founders of PlasJuvant Techno Health LLP believe that breakthroughs often come from new perspectives. Similar to our immune system, antibiotic potentiation by PlasJuvant, an innovative custom configuration of a hand held device, is rooted in a unique synergy of its transient reactive species. Specifically, a short exposure of PlasJuvant to the sites of topical infections can improves susceptibility of systemic, oral or locally applied antibiotics to fight against AMR microorganisms. Upon application of PlasJuvant, the existing classes of antibiotics can synergistically eradicate drug resistant microorganisms without relapse and with no chances of acquiring resistance. Given the significant prevalence of multi drug resistant bacteria in nosocomial infections, PlasJuvant can become a valuable route in helping stem the rising tide of AMR, a major challenge of our time that is predicted to lead to 10 million deaths and $100 trillion annually by 2050.
