1. Wood coating products, currently manufactured and commercially available, ail from the following issues : They are solvent based multiple component systems, with limited pot life ( ie once the components are mixed it needs to be used up within 4-6 hours ) They have a charachteristic high odour and at the time of application and even afterwards ( 48 hrs ) one cannot enter the place where the coating has been done. They emit Volatile Organic Compounds. (VOC), which cause air pollution and the voc fumes are hazardous for humans. ( VOC varying from 300-750 g/l ) They have a higher carbon footprint to the proposed product. 2. The wood coatings we have developed as a solution have the following benefits : Our products are water based and do not contain solvents which are hazardous to the coating applicator. It is a very low odour product and one can enter the place immediately after the coating has been done. It is a very low VOC product and thus does not release harmful VOC to the environment thereby decreasing air pollution significantly as compared to solvent based systems. ( Less than 100 g/l ) It is a single component system which is a ready to use product and does not require mixing of different components in precise ratios as in multi component systems. It also does not have the problem of pot life as it is a single component system. Due to all of the above and the product being a bio based product, the solution propsed is sustainable and has a lower carbon footprint than other alternatives. It is free from BPA, APEO, pthalates and heavy metals. 3. The proposed wood coating is a sustainable solution that has been developed on a patent pending technology which utilizes bio based raw material for manufacturing the polymer. It is also the first of its kind product manufactured in INDIA as opposed to foreign alternatives. Even the foreign alternatives are derived from petrochemical sourced raw materials thus having a higher carbon footprint.
