Social Business Model Prabhavana Multi State Women’s Cooperative Society for Jute and Allied Fibres, registered underthe Multistate Cooperatives(MSCS) Act (2002), is the first women’s MSCS with focus on research and development, product development, production and marketing of products made from jute and allied fibres. In the 4+ years of its journey, Prabhavana has crossed many milestones andcollaborated withpublic sector undertakings, government departments, non-governmental organizations and other privateinstitutions along the way. Women's Cooperative Societies are intended to empower and support women by creating opportunities for economic participation and improving their socio-economic status in alignment withthe Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDG) of the United Nations. Our business model is based on the principles of cooperation,shared ownership, self-help, cooperative governance, skill development, social impact and capacity building.Prabhavana has delivered a good impact so far, and progressed much interms of scope, scale, and effectiveness ofitsinitiatives for sustainable development and social contribution. Projects undertaken Poverty Prabhavana helps alleviate poverty among its members by providing them with sustainable livelihood opportunities through jute production and diversified product businesses. By offering fair wages, profit-sharing and economic empowerment, it can help lift women out of poverty. Gender Equality The societycan play a crucial role in promoting gender equality by focusing on women's empowerment including Transgender communities and by creating opportunities for their economic participation. By giving women and transgenders access to leadership positions, skill development programs and decision-making processes, it can empower women and transgenders and promote gender equality. Decent Work and Economic Growth The society contributes to decent work and economic growth by providing employment opportunities for women in the jute sector. By offering fair wages, safe working conditions, and skill development programs, it can ensure decent work and contribute to sustainable economic growth. Responsible Consumption and Production Jute is a sustainable and eco-friendly material, and the society can promote responsible consumption and production practices among consumers by manufacturing and promoting jute-diversified products. By replacing less sustainable materials with jute and other natural fibre alternatives, it can contribute to reducing the environmental impact of consumption and production. Climate Action Jute and other natural fibres are renewable and biodegradable materials with a low carbon footprint. The society can contribute to climate action by promoting jute products as an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic materials. By raising awareness about the environmental benefits of jute and advocating for its use, it can support efforts to mitigate climate change. Life on Land Jute and natural fibres cultivation can have positive effects on land use and biodiversity. Jute plants enrich the soil, reduce erosion, and provide habitats for various species. The society can promote sustainable jute farming practices that protect and enhance biodiversity, contributing to the conservation of life on land. Partnerships for the goals The cooperative society can foster partnerships and collaboration to achieve the SDGs. By establishing connections with other cooperatives, NGOs, government agencies, and international organizations, it can share knowledge, resources, and best practices to amplify its impact and work collectively towards the SDGs.
