Toughened glass is A grade safety glass that has been subjected to special treatment to increase its mechanical strength and to condition its fragmentation after shattering. Toughened glass is four to five times stronger than ordinary annealed glass of the same thickness. When toughened glass breaks, it disintegrates into relatively small harmless particles which are unlikely to cause a severe injury, unlike annealed glass. The objective for using safety glass is to reduce the risk of human injury.
