Proficient Vision Solutions Private Limited is incorporated with the vision to deliver product and services in the domain of computer vision. We have years of expertise in the field of image and video restoration. Our first innovative product is Clear Vision: Real-time removal of bad weather (viz. rain and fog) effects from videos. Current vision systems are designed to perform in normal weather condition. Bad weather reduces scene contrast and visibility, which results in degradation of performance of various computer vision algorithms such as object tracking, segmentation and recognition. Thus current vision systems must include some mechanisms that enable them to perform up to the mark in bad weather conditions such as rain and fog. Accidents occurring in the bad weather condition is of major concern. Low visibility in the presence of rain and fog is among the major reasons for road accidents. In USA alone, approximately 21% of 5,891,000 vehicle crashes each year, nearly 1,235,000 - are weather-related. In India, between 2014 and 2017, fatalities on roads due to fog-related crashes surged almost 100 percent. Delays in various transportation services like railways in bad weather is also of major concern. Rain and fog removal could greatly improve the performance of various tasks like self-steering, traffic signal recognition. Similarly, the algorithm can also be used to increase the safety of rail, ship and air transportation. The visual acuity of rain or fog affected videos captured by surveillance cameras can also be enhanced by this algorithm. The algorithms for rain and fog removal from videos were proposed by a PhD scholar and supervisor. Based on these works, patents were filed by IIT Kharagpur in US, Europe and South Korea. The patents are granted in the USA, South Korea and Europe. The patent has been waiting for approval in India. When the research paper was published, the algorithm performed better than other rain and fog removal algorithms. The algorithm can remove rain and fog in real time. The proposed algorithm works only on the intensity component of the video as opposed to other approaches that work on all the colour components. It also requires a lower number of consecutive video frames for removal of rain and fog. For the reasons mentioned above, the algorithm performs better than other approaches. The previous approaches of fog removal were only for images; our approach was the first that could achieve it for videos. The research has received various Innovation awards. In 2016, the innovation on fog removal secured 5th position in IIGP (India Innovation Growth Programme), and in 2017 the innovation on rain removal was selected as one of the top 9 winners in IIGP 2.0. In 2017, this fog and rain removal technology received FICCI R&D Awards 2017 under GLOBAL R&D SUMMIT in Bangalore. In April 2018, we received the Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation Award National Fellowship for the technology transition of real-time fog and rain removal. On 12th October 2018, we have presented our work to Tire-I suppliers of Lockheed Martin.in “Startup Conference” organised by Lockheed Martin India Private Limited.
