Use of Modified Atmospheric Packaging ( MAP ) to increase the shelf life of Agro Based Commodities like Pomegranate Seeds, Fresh Lemon, Pilled Lime, Banana, Green Peas, and Fresh vegetables. The list of products is very much vast, most of them are temperature sensitive and highly perishable. Modified Atmospheric Packaging will provide them longer shelf life which also means there are more chances to get a better price for agro commodities. MAP can be defined as the enclosure of food in a package in which the atmosphere inside the package is modified or altered to provide an optimum atmosphere for increasing shelf life and maintaining the quality of the food. Modification of the atmosphere may be achieved either actively or passively. Research needs 1. The use of intelligent packaging systems has to be evaluated. 2. The combination of novel methods of food treatment and packaging needs to be examined, for example, irradiation used with MAP and antimicrobial films used in combination with MAP. 3. There is a need to investigate the antimicrobial effect of super atmospheric O2 in fresh-cut produce safety. 4. There is a need to investigate the influence of storage temperature and atmosphere on post cutting shelf life of fresh-cut fruit. 5. Although work has been initiated, more work on the influence of storage temperature and the atmosphere on prepared salads and cut flowers of different varieties need to be carried out. 6. There is a need to explore the survival of enteric pathogens and the behavior of food-borne viruses and protozoan parasites on MAP produce. 7. Edible films for use in MAP systems are an active area of research. However, as with other MAP, can create a very low O2 environment. Antimicrobial compounds that can be incorporated into the coating need to be investigated
