We are company aiming to contribute to the growing battery manufacturing sector in India as envisioned by National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage. Our aim is to contribute to the Make in India initiative by helping battery/cell manufacturers localize the sourcing of components involved in manufacturing a battery/cell. One of the very important component of the cell/battery is the outer casing (also know as cell can and cell cap), which is made of steel/aluminum based on the requirement of the particular cell chemistry. We are a company intending to manufacture the outer casing in India. The process of manufacturing the outer casing involves deep drawing and stamping. Considering the low tolerance levels and overall safety that outer casing is responsible for, the manufacturing technology involved has been mastered only by a few (companies in China and Europe) in the world. We will be working with these companies who have mastered the technology of manufacturing outer casing, work on a technology transfer, and become capable to manufacturing the outer casings locally and efficiently here in India. This will directly result in lower foreign exchange outflow (currently outer casings are all imported from China), it will help create employment locally, cut down on supply chain time delays and will overall contribute to the make in India initiative. Overall, our aim is to lower the import dependence on China and contribute towards being self-sufficient while creating value locally. The accuracy with which these outer casings need to be manufactured is very high since any compromise in their quality will lead to a direct impact on overall battery safety. The tolerance levels are at millimicron level, therefore needing sophisticated technology. Therefore, the transfer of technology is very important for us to learn.
