There are some facts that you hear about the world that shock you into action. For us, the fact that 50 billion disposable diapers are discarded after one use every year and left to lie in landfills for centuries was one of them. It’s shocking to realize that these single use diapers haven’t been around for even 100 years but have already left a negative impact on the earth that’s going to last the next 100 centuries. It’s difficult to understand the magnitude of the problem until one realizes the impact a single innocent baby that’s been diapered using disposables has on the earth. This one baby uses more than 4500 diapers alone, adding close to 950kgs of toxic non-biodegradable waste to our landfills. But as parents, who doesn’t want the best for their babies? We’ve all seen the numerous TV commercials, heard the radio ads and read in magazines that PAMPERS, HUGGIES & MAMY POKOPANTS are the best thing that can happen to your baby. Oh, so soft, and super absorbent – they’re the perfect diapering solution is what we’ve heard. But are they? Care takers bought into the fantasy of easy to use, safe & absorbent diapers and switched from using traditional langots & home fashioned cloth diapers that have been around for as long as humans go back to this new invention in unconventionally large numbers in just a handful of years. Only now is the world realizing the ecological and health impact that these diapers have had in the last century. The tremendous increase in diaper rashes, skin issues & aches in babies – all owing to the super absorbent polymers, phthalates, plastics and numerous other chemicals found in disposables to make them highly absorbent is a factor that’s causing people to reconsider their diapering choice. 3% of the world’s landfills are compose of disposables which aren’t going to disappear anytime soon and if continued at the same pace, will increase to 8%. The more we dug into the diapering industry, the more dirt we seemed to find. We knew there had to be a solution in the market to combat this issue while still providing parents with the convenience and absorbency of disposable diapers. This is when we learnt about ‘MODERN CLOTH DIAPERS’; the perfect hybrid that brings in the goodness of cloth and the ease of disposables. Over the last decade, modern cloth diapers have taken 1st world countries by a storm and have stolen up to 20% market share from the market monopolizers. It is exciting and wonderful to know that the Indian baby market is ripe for the undertaking with cloth diapers – parents are now at the brink of knowledge about cloth diapers but still looking for a reliable and trusted brand.
