Globally, noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) accounted for 71% of total deaths. In India, NCDs were estimated to account for 63% of all deaths, and cancer was one of the leading causes (9%). The global cancer burden is expected to be 28.4 million cases in 2040, a 47% rise from 2020. Worldwide, an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths occurred in 2020. According to World Health Organization (WHO), one in 10 Indians developing cancer and one in 15 dies. In India, the six most common cancer types were breast (162,500), oral (120,000), cervical (97,000), lung (68,000), stomach (57,000), and colorectal (57,000) cancers. Therefore, efforts to build a sustainable infrastructure for the dissemination of proven cancer prevention measures and the provision of cancer care in transitioning countries are critical for global cancer control. Targeted imaging and therapies is the foundation of precision medicine. It is a type of cancer diagnostics and treatments that selectively targets the proteins involves in cancer cell growth, progression, and metastasis. “One target-one drug” has been the foremost in drug discovery, the concept that the disease can be tackled by a single disease-related biological target. Because of heterogeneity of cancers and lack of efficacy of one target-one drug, the new concept “one drug-multi target” evolved as an innovative medicine. Therefore, the design and development of multi-receptor targeting approach for targeted imaging and therapies are desirable. The development and clinical translation of “Small-molecule Multi-Receptor Targeting (SMRT) approach” is innovative and cost effective.
