Unlike the US, UK and Australia where laboratory designs are based on their relevant local standards. The guidelines describe below take into cognizance relevant international standards that are applicable to the scenario in India as direct adoption of the common international standards may not be possible. Shortage of space and manpower, are among the crucial factors that may call for variation from common international standards. The objective is to provide a consistent and harmonized reference across food and Pharmaceutical testing laboratories to progressively raise the quality of testing and safety standards of laboratories in India.
