Silage is basically a preserved green fodder in succulent form under air tight conditions. It is preserved from the fermentation of sugars available in the green fodder in the absence of oxygen (Anaerobic condition) having high moisture around 65-70 percent. It is the best method for preservation of surplus green fodder produced during flush season which can be used for feeding the livestock during the lean period and natural calamities. The nutritional loss is lesser in silage than hay. Silage making will support the Entrepreneurs to cater to the nutritional needs of livestock by feeding with ensiled green fodder round the year to obtained optimum milk yield.
