ToxiVen’s main aim is to develop innovative solutions to the global problem of snakebite, especially in India. Our first product will be a novel diagnostic kit for envenomation, which is the first of its kind around the world and hopes to create a paradigm shift in the management of snakebite envenoming. Using innovative antibody production techniques, we have developed a prototype for this diagnostic kit and filed a patent application in India. This kit can be used in hospitals and clinics as well as being appropriate to field settings in the rural areas of India to confirm snakebite envenomation and encourage the victims to seek prompt hospital treatment. The kit shall be available at an affordable price and thus, will primarily benefit poor victims living in rural, tribal and agricultural areas – i.e. those who are mainly affected by snakebites. Subsequently, similar diagnostic kits will be released worldwide for region specific snakes and all venomous species across the world. This will lead to successful growth for ToxiVen, hence more employment/income generation. Our company is also focussed on the production of next generation therapeutics for snakebites including small molecules-based anti-toxins, toxin-specific monoclonal/polyclonal antibodies and anti-venoms (monovalent and polyvalent). We formed a multidisciplinary team composed of leading biotechnologists, venom pharmacologists, chemists, biochemists, clinicians and drug discovery specialists to tackle the issues associated with snakebites. These innovative ideas will not only enhance pharmaceutical research in India but also improve the management of snakebites and save the lives of India’s primary workforce i.e. agriculture farmers.
