According to a study by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India from 2016, 29.3% (or 96.4 million hectares) of the total land in India is undergoing the process of land degradation. This number is expected to continue to increase because of climate change resulting in a decrease in the available farmable land in India. While this degraded land is considered unfarmable, Urbane Krishi has developed innovative technology and expertise to repurpose the land and make it usable for various agriculture activities.
