1.1 Varuna Ocean Marine LLP company, is established in Oct 2021 for providing support to Repairs of Boats of Local Fisherman to support their livelihood & Ships of Indian Navy/ Coastal Police, Coast Guard. These services will be provided on most competitive rates to help the fishermen in the locality during boat repairs. To undertake the above activity, company needs to set up a office and workshop in vicinity of Fishermen & Indian Navy. After considering these facts it is established that land bearing survey No 299B, Hissa-2K at Chendia, Karwar measuring approx. 3000 Sqaure Feet will be suitable to undertake this activity. To meet this objective, M/s Varuna Ocean Marine LLP has identified this strategic location in Karwar” and has initiated the process. In first phase of establishment, The company will have a small workshop (1000 SqF) and office of 680 Sq feet. On successful running of this workshop, in second phase a much larger facility will be established in the area. The second phase of workshop and creation of a Greenfield Workshop projects are considered as future requirements for the purpose of this project. 1.2 Considering the proactive industrialization policy of the Government of Karnataka, it is presumed that the state will facilitate provision of infrastructural support to ensure availability of sufficient water and power supply for meeting the project’s needs including widening of the link roads as may be necessary. 1.3 The safety and security of customer’s machinery and equipment is statutorily regulated through classification society’s surveys and certification. Thus the areas of such maintenance and repair work can be grouped under ‘Hull’, ‘Marine engineering’, ‘Electronics’ and ‘Electrical’. The proposed workshop facility is designed to provide the range of maintenance activities and it includes facilities for: • Ships & Boats Hull and Structure • Marine Engineering systems • Electrical & Electronic Systems • Auxiliary Systems such as pumps, centrifuges, Services auxiliaries such as the Distillers, Air – conditioning and refrigeration, Air compressors both Low Pressure and High Pressure etc. 1.4 All Repair facilities will be planned and located in the proposed workshops (Work Centers) spread over the complex. Specialist work related to the four areas namely, Hull. Marine engineering, Electronics and Electrical will be done in these Centers. The logic that has been applied for selecting the repair shops to be set up, in sizing them and in manning them is: a. To provide a minimum essential capability in handling the expected repair tasks b. Ability to manage repetitive kind of work within the workshop. c. To have adequate (medium level) expertise captive within the workshop. d. To keep the overall worker strength within reasonable levels e. To possess equitable numbers of worker specializations in various disciplines f. Highly specialized activities will be offloaded to the OEMs g. Labour intensive work will be subcontracted h. Heat Treatment, Foundry & Forge, Metal Cladding etc. 1.5 Mid size repairs market segment has been provisionally selected as the preferred target area for the proposed Varuna Ocean Marine LLP’s Workshop (VOMW) in view of the expected proliferation in this size for meeting feeder services and coastal shipping requirements in India. Varuna Ocean Marine LLP’s Workshop proposal envisages investment of Rs. 15 Lakh for building the workshop and Rs 25 Lakhs towards purchase of machinery is immediately required for implementation of phase 1. Anticipated need for product support services for Ships and Boats, which are based in Karwar. Other target market segment would be sales and services of machinery and equipment related to Coast Guard’s OPV’s and IPV’s Offshore oil industries’ MSV’s OSV’s, pipe laying vessels, anchor handling tugs, small dredgers, commercial ships and barges, small Naval warships, recreational submersible, passenger ferries, etc. the workshop will also provide voyage repair services to mercantile marine and on site repair services to offshore industries and Fishermen Boats. 1.6 The workshop is expected to provide direct employment to 20 personnel in all categories and indirect employment to about 80 Engineers/ personnel at full capacity utilization at Various locations. 1.7 Future prospects are based in completion of phase 2 of VOMW, after a few years, comprising expansion of workshop infrastructure to enable on board and workshop product support to be rendered for capital warships and submarines of Indian Navy.
